$325K Ford Mustang GTD Comes With Heavy Restrictions

$325K Ford Mustang GTD Comes With Heavy Restrictions

Owning Ford’s ultra-high-performance Mustang GTD requires "confidential" terms, including a two-year no-sell clause.

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is an engineering marvel. With 815 horsepower, a cutting-edge aerodynamic design, and racecar-inspired technology, it’s no surprise that enthusiasts and collectors are clamoring for one. However, owning one is not as simple as signing a check. Ford has placed significant restrictions on the car, potentially deterring even the most passionate collectors, making it more of a challenge to own this piece of Mustang history.

For starters, there’s a strict selection process, a $325,000+ price tag, and ultra-low production volume, but Ford’s familiar no-sell clause will likely be the biggest hurdle for buyers. In an era where electric vehicles and massive SUVs dominate the roads, it’s refreshing that a car such as the Mustang GTD even exists. The reality of owning this car, though, means dealing with Ford’s restrictive contracts and a lengthy waitlist… if you can even get on it!

2025 Ford Mustang GTD Limitations

This restriction is meant to discourage flippers, investors who purchase rare cars only to resell them for a quick profit through a two-year ownership commitment. Ford has taken a hard stance against this practice, previously enforcing similar policies with the Ford GT supercar. In fact, the automaker even pursued legal action against celebrities and collectors who attempted to sidestep their contractual obligations. Ford Authority first reported this policy, and Ford subsequently confirmed it to Motor1.com, stating,

“Ford Mustang GTD customers agree to confidential terms and conditions that include a commitment to maintain ownership for two years.”

Of course, this isn’t the only hurdle that hopeful Mustang GTD buyers must overcome. Perhaps the largest is that production volume is expected to be limited to just hundreds of units per year (over a two-year production run), while the list of hand-raisers has grown to more than 7,500. That means even if you can afford the price tag (including a reported 50% down payment) and you’re willing to deal with the two-year ownership clause, you still have to be selected to be a GTD owner by Ford. Only a fraction of the enthusiasts and collectors vying for a GTD will get to own one, and Ford’s landing page for the Mustang GTD promises as much: “Very limited availability. Inquiry does not guarantee ability to purchase.”

For those fortunate enough to secure an allocation, the challenge doesn’t end there. While the GTD is engineered for the track, actually driving it at full tilt is another story. Its extreme performance capabilities demand a skilled driver who can handle its raw power and advanced suspension system. Even for those daring enough to push its limits, the risk factor remains high. Given its rarity, repair costs for the GTD will be astronomical, and every mile on the odometer will impact its long-term value.
